On Monday, June 25, 2012, Meridian Air Charter sent a foursome of pilots to play in the 16th Annual Flight Safety 2012 Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament held at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York. In addition to sending players, Meridian also supported the event with a hole sponsorship, which allowed the TEB-based private aviation company to network with golfers by having a tent at the hole with two volunteers to hand out cold water and and shake hands.
While the early part of the day had experienced some stormy weather conditions which caused a half-hour delayed start, the remainder of the morning and early afternoon allowed the players to finish 12 holes before being forced to stop playing when another storm front had rolled in. Most of the players had opted to return to the course after a short delay, but the scoring was based on 12 holes to keep it fair for those golfers that did not finish the round.
About 190 golfers hit the links on Monday, with a total of 240 attendees participating in the event, including players, volunteers, and dinner guests. Since Centennial is a 27 hole course, Flight Safety awarded 3 First Place prizes to foursomes with the lowest scores based on the combination of courses played. Contest prizes were also offered for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. Prizes included iPads, Kindles, digital cameras, and aircraft models, and of course, two Ping putters dontated by Meridian.
First place winners scored -8, -7, and -6, while Team Meridian finished at +3. Although the Meridian foursome did not win first place, David Tidwell won Closest to the Pin with an amazing shot that landed just 4′ 8″ from the hole. Dave (a.k.a. “Tiddy”) won a $150 gift card to the Centennial Pro Shop, which he used to purchase a Footjoy windbreaker. Nice job Tiddy! Meridian is looking forward to participating in its next golf tournament, which will be the 28th Annual Teterboro Airport Scholarship Classic at Wild Turkey Golf Club on September 10, 2012.
