Francisco and Matthew welcomed golfers throughout the day, offering them water bottles, power bars, sunscreen, and Meridian golf balls. The Meridian foursome included Bob Platten, Nehemias Camacho, and our guest, Herb Knight. (The fourth golfer, Chris Battaglia, was recruited to play on another team at the last minute.) In addition, we also had a branded sponsorship table near the clubhouse where Mike Moore and MaKayla Hambek greeted golfers throughout the tournament. Giveaways included Gatorade, snacks, and sunscreen, as well as Meridian’s famous jet comparison guides. Greg Johnson played a competitive round in the tournament with industry colleagues.
A delicious dinner followed the event which included an award ceremony for various competitions held throughout the tournament. There were many contests, including closest to the pin, longest drive, and best overall score. Among the various prizes handed out, Greg Johnson won a G600 model aircraft and Meridian was awarded a sponsorship trophy for its ongoing support.

Meridian Air Charter’s Francisco Cabrera Earns FAA Aircraft Dispatcher License

Francisco Cabrera, Aircraft Dispatcher at Meridian Air Charter
Francisco Cabrera, Aircraft Dispatcher at Meridian Air Charter

Meridian, the award-winning private aviation company based at Teterboro Airport, is pleased to announce that Francisco Cabrera (a.k.a. ‘Cisco’) recently earned his FAA Aircraft Dispatcher License. The Aircraft Dispatcher is responsible for authorizing and overseeing the operation of a flight from before takeoff to after landing. Often referred to as “The Pilot on the Ground”, the Dispatcher prepares flight plans, taking into account important factors such as weather conditions, fuel requirements, and potential hazards, with knowledge of aircraft limitations and FAA regulations, to ensure the safe completion of each flight.
The certification means that Mr. Cabrera can now assume full scheduling and dispatch responsibilities in the Flight Operations department at Meridian Air Charter. He completed the program on April 4, 2016 at the FlightSafety International facility located at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. The program at FlightSafety is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) -approved course, which fully prepares participants for the FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certification (Licensing) Exams. The initial course exceeds FAA regulations by providing 24 hours over the required 200 hours of instruction.
In 2005, Mr. Cabrera began his aviation career working in the Line Service department at Meridian Teterboro, the company’s Fixed Base Operation (FBO). After ten years of experience and proving himself on the ramp, he expressed interest in broadening his skills to other areas of aviation, particularly flight operations. In October 2015, a Flight Coordinator position became available in the Charter group, and this was the opportunity that he had been waiting for. He interviewed for the position and was offered the job. After accepting the offer, he eventually transitioned over from the FBO to Charter into his current role as an Aircraft Dispatcher.
We are proud of Cisco for completing this challenging program. Congratulations from all of your colleagues at Meridian!

On Monday, June 24, 2013, Meridian Air Charter sent a foursome of pilots to play in the 17th Annual FlightSafety 2013 Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament held at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York. In addition to sending players, Meridian also supported the event with a hole sponsorship located on the Meadows course. The par 3 was also a contest hole for ‘Closest to the Pin’. The sponsorship enabled Meridian representatives to network with golfers by having a tent at the hole, where volunteers handed out cold water and power bars to very thirsty players. The weather was unusually hot and humid for late June, with temperatures reaching well into the 90’s for most of the day.

The tournament was a success with 180 golfers, 240 attendees, and 26 sponsors participating. Since Centennial is a 27 hole course, FlightSafety awarded 3 First Place prizes to foursomes with the lowest scores based on the combination of courses played. 1st place winners were as follows:

• Signature Flight Support on the Meadows/Lakes courses with a final score of 58
• The Whitewind Company on the Fairways/Meadows courses with a final score of 60
• Corporate Air Transport on the Lakes/Fairways courses with a final score of 60

There were 5 prizes offered for the ‘Closest to the Pin’ contests. Congratulations to Joe Gallucci of the New York City Police for winning at the hole sponsored by Meridian, located at #5 Meadows!

Prizes included iPads, Kindles, digital cameras, and aircraft models, and two Ping putters dontated by Meridian. Team Meridian completed the round +3, finishing with the same score as last year. Although the Meridian team did not win any prizes this year, everyone from the company agreed that the event was fun and very well-organized.

Meridian is looking forward to participating in its next golf tournament, which will be the 29th Annual Teterboro Airport Scholarship Classic at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, NJ, on September 20, 2013.

David Tidwell displays his winning shot for the Closest to the Pin contest

On Monday, June 25, 2012, Meridian Air Charter sent a foursome of pilots to play in the 16th Annual Flight Safety 2012 Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament held at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York. In addition to sending players, Meridian also supported the event with a hole sponsorship, which allowed the TEB-based private aviation company to network with golfers by having a tent at the hole with two volunteers to hand out cold water and and shake hands.
While the early part of the day had experienced some stormy weather conditions which caused a half-hour delayed start, the remainder of the morning and early afternoon allowed the players to finish 12 holes before being forced to stop playing when another storm front had rolled in. Most of the players had opted to return to the course after a short delay, but the scoring was based on 12 holes to keep it fair for those golfers that did not finish the round.
About 190 golfers hit the links on Monday, with a total of 240 attendees participating in the event, including players, volunteers, and dinner guests. Since Centennial is a 27 hole course, Flight Safety awarded 3 First Place prizes to foursomes with the lowest scores based on the combination of courses played. Contest prizes were also offered for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. Prizes included iPads, Kindles, digital cameras, and aircraft models, and of course, two Ping putters dontated by Meridian.
First place winners scored -8, -7, and -6, while Team Meridian finished at +3. Although the Meridian foursome did not win first place, David Tidwell won Closest to the Pin with an amazing shot that landed just 4′ 8″ from the hole. Dave (a.k.a. “Tiddy”) won a $150 gift card to the Centennial Pro Shop, which he used to purchase a Footjoy windbreaker. Nice job Tiddy! Meridian is looking forward to participating in its next golf tournament, which will be the 28th Annual Teterboro Airport Scholarship Classic at Wild Turkey Golf Club on September 10, 2012.
