Last week, Meridian sent a team of associates to Geneva, Switzerland, to represent the company at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE2016). EBACE is the largest annual business aviation event in Europe, and is jointly hosted by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA). As in previous years, this industry event was held at the Palexpo Convention Center from May 24 – 26, 2016. The convention center is conveniently located at Geneva Airport (GVA), which uniquely offers attendees the ability to visit exhibitor booths and the static display in one location.
Organizers were pleased with the turnout of exhibitors and attendees, and the show continues to demonstrate its place as Europe’s foremost business aviation event. “This year’s show was a terrific success, characterized by a full exhibit floor, with lots of business getting done,” noted EBAA CEO Fabio Gamba. “It’s an affirmation that EBACE remains Europe’s most important industry event.”
EBAA President Brian Humphries agreed. “We’re very pleased with the level of enthusiasm we’ve seen this year,” he said. “In addition to the busy show floor and sold-out aircraft static display, our seminars and education sessions were well attended, and participants were very engaged with presenters and one another.”
NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen added: “EBACE exhibitors and attendees repeatedly told us this week that the show continues to be a must-attend on the industry calendar. Additionally, EBACE once again highlighted the size and significance of business aviation in Europe, and around the world.”
Below are several statistics highlighting the success of this year’s show:
1. EBACE2016 featured more than 450 exhibitors, representing over 40 countries.
2. The static display of aircraft featured 60 aircraft – some were new to the event, or made their world debut at EBACE. The footprint for the show was the largest to date.
3. EBACE2016 attendees came from more than 100 countries.
4. More than 400 journalists from all over the world were in attendance.
5. The show’s Opening General Session lineup was among the strongest ever, featuring leaders from government and industry. Keynote speakers included former Foreign Minister of France and co-founder of Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Bernard Kouchner; Executive Director of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Patrick Ky, and; Channel IT Group founder and CEO Bassim Haidar, whose company provides telecommunications and electricity in 23 countries in Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Haidar has extensively used business aviation to help his company be more flexible, efficient and successful.
6. The event included two day-long seminars – one related to aircraft transactions, the other on business aviation safety – as well as a host of education sessions covering important industry topics and trends. The show’s popular “Inspiration Zone” had sessions on timely topics, including considerations for business aviation operations in parts of the world affected by the Zika virus.
“By every measure, EBACE2016 was a great success, and we are delighted with the support we’ve received from exhibitors and attendees,” Gamba concluded. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Geneva for EBACE2017.” Next year, the show will take place from May 22 – 24, 2017.

Meridian, the award-winning private aviation company based at Teterboro Airport (KTEB) in Teterboro, NJ, sent a team of five representatives to the 2015 European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE2015) held in Geneva, Switzerland. This year marked the 15th anniversary of the business aviation conference. Organizers said this year’s event once again underscored the show’s value to exhibitors and attendees, and its continuing importance to the industry’s advancement in Europe and beyond. EBACE is jointly hosted by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA).
“As we marked this 15th year of EBACE, it was clear that the event has always been, and will continue to be, a trade show featuring new products and cutting-edge technologies, and a premier venue for networking and getting the latest information about the trends shaping this dynamic industry,” said EBAA CEO Fabio Gamba. NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen agreed, stating: “EBACE remains a forward-looking event, which is why it will always be a can’t-miss show on the industry’s calendar.” Bolen and Gamba also noted that this 15th EBACE offered an opportunity to consider the show’s phenomenal growth since the first edition of the show, held in 2001.
For example, that inaugural EBACE featured 200 exhibitors, and about 30 aircraft on static display. This year, the event drew nearly 500 exhibitors and nearly 60 aircraft on display. EBACE2015 attendees came from more than 100 countries, from the European region and beyond. The attendees had an opportunity to hear from industry thought-leaders who participated in a variety of education sessions, an International Transactions Seminar and a Safety Workshop.
This year’s EBACE also featured the first-ever Inspiration Zone with a dedicated focus on the industry’s future. The Inspiration Zone, positioned on the exhibit floor, was the location for a session on Unmanned Aircraft Systems, an inaugural Young Professionals Networking Event, and a session on Skills and Careers. A Career Day for European post-secondary students interested in aviation was attended by 70 students from Switzerland, Germany and Spain.
A host of exhibitor press conferences, held on and off the EBACE show floor, provided news-making announcements about companies’ products and plans. More than 400 representatives with news organizations from around the world attended and covered EBACE2015.
As it has every year, EBACE2015 also served as an advocacy platform, showcasing the industry’s importance to government leaders. At the show’s Opening General Session, Francois Longchamp, state counselor of the Canton of Geneva, reiterated his support for business aviation as essential to regional commerce. Patrick Ky, the executive director of the European Aviation Safety Agency, outlined his plans to ensure that future policymaking by the agency reflects the diversity of companies and mission profiles in business aviation.
“We thank the government leaders who joined us at EBACE this year, and also the exhibitors, attendees and others who made EBACE2015 such a success,” Gamba said. Bolen echoed Gamba’s sentiment, adding: “We are eager to celebrate the next 15 years, and beyond, for the show.”
Next year’s EBACE will return to Palexpo and Geneva International Airport from May 24-26, 2016.

Meridian, the award-winning private aviation company based at Teterboro Airport, sent a full team of associates last week to Europe’s largest and most important business aviation trade show, European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE). EBACE is jointly hosted by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA). The event is held each year at Geneva’s Palexpo conference center and at Geneva International Airport. The 2014 show took place from May 20 to 22.

The Meridian Team represented many areas of the company, including Air Charter, Aircraft Management, FBO, Aircraft Maintenance and Marketing. Meridian was well-positioned with its central booth location, enabling the Team to better interact with longtime customers, industry colleagues, and to meet with new prospects who were introduced to our company for the first time. The Team handed out its iconic t-shirts, which helped spread the word of Meridian’s ability to directly handle incoming passengers from the US Customs facility at TEB.

“This year’s EBACE will be remembered as one of our strongest shows to date,” said EBAA CEO Fabio Gamba. “We are delighted with the level of business done, and with the excitement that characterized the event, not to mention all of the positive feedback we have received from exhibitors and attendees alike. Given the beautiful weather, the new single, contiguous exhibit floor layout and the enthusiasm among show participants, we have had a great EBACE2014.”

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen agreed, adding: “We are very pleased that all indicators were up this year, and that EBACE continues to demonstrate its value as a premier venue for companies in the industry to give aviation decision-makers a first-hand look at their products and services.”

Here are some highlights from this year’s show:

– The number of EBACE2014 exhibitors in Palexpo Halls 4, 5 and 6 increased by 8 percent over last year’s exhibitor count.
– The number of booth spaces sold for EBACE2014 grew by more than 4 percent over the number for EBACE2013, giving this year’s EBACE its largest footprint ever.
– This year’s aircraft display was once again completely sold out.
– The show proved again to be an effective news-making venue for providers of business aviation products and services. On the “Media Day,” before EBACE2014 opened, a host of press conferences were held, and several aircraft manufacturers unveiled new aircraft models during the show.
– At the time EBACE2014 closed, attendance at the show was up by more than 7 percent over that for EBACE2013.

Next year’s EBACE, which will mark the 15th edition of the event, will return to Palexpo and Geneva International Airport from May 19 to 21, 2015.
