Meridian Plays for a Good Cause in 30th Annual PAMA Golf Outing

Team Meridian Poses for a photo at the 30th Annual PAMA Golf Outing

On Monday, October 29, Meridian Jet Center was proud to support the 30th Annual Ed Furst Sr. Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing, which was held at the beautiful Crystal Springs Golf Club in Hamburg, NJ. Meridian was a proud hole sponsor, while also sending a foursome of golfers to represent the company. The event drew 112 golfers and included a 4-person scramble, lunch, dinner, and an awards reception following the tournament.
The golf outing traditionally follows the first Teterboro PAMA meeting of the season, which was held the previous evening at Graycliff Restaurant in Moonachie, NJ. The Meridian team included John Langschultz (VP of Maintenance), Bob Kennedy, (Jet Center Sales), Brian Fee and Gino DiMartino, Account Manager with Aerotek Aviation. While the foursome did not win the tournament, they did take home the award for “Most Honest Team,” which the Meridian Maintenance Department considers a better outcome than victory.
Meridian has been a longtime sponsor from the very beginning, 30 years ago. John Langschultz has been on the golf committee for the entire 30 years. The PAMA golf outing was renamed after Ed Furst, Sr. passed away suddenly in 2001. Today, his son, Ed Furst, Jr. organizes the event each year.
The annual golf outing is hosted by the Teterboro Chapter of the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association and provides educational opportunities to students attending the Teterboro School of Aeronautics in conjunction with FlightSafety. According to chapter President Ed Furst Jr., “The PAMA chapter has had a long-standing relationship with the school. Every student benefits from the latest donation by PAMA and FlightSafety. The chapter is leasing FlightSafety’s popular Principles of Troubleshooting training program for the school for a three-year period. Each year we would donate scholarship funds to one or two students – but our board members were looking for something that would benefit the whole student body.” Teterboro PAMA and FL Aviation based in Morristown, NJ, had established the scholarship in memory of Tom Geiger, former Director of Maintenance at FL Aviation. The golf outing helps to raise the funds needed to keep the program going.
John Langschultz says, “We are proud to participate in this event because it positively impacts all of the students. Since these young men and women are the future of our industry, we all benefit in the long run. It’s really a great cause.”

Meridian, the award-winning private aviation company based at Teterboro Airport, was a proud sponsor of FlightSafety’s 22nd Annual Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament held on Monday, June 25, 2018. The company sent a team of people to meet and greet golfers at the sponsored hole, as well as a foursome to play in the tournament. Meridian sponsored the ‘Closest to the Pin’ contest hole on the Meadows course, which was hosted by two representatives of the company, Heather DeRegis from Charter Operations and Victor Seda from Customer Service. Heather and Victor welcomed golfers throughout the day, offering them Gatorade, water bottles, power bars, sunscreen, and Meridian golf balls. The Meridian foursome included Ron Palmer, Bob Platten, and Chris Battaglia. (The fourth golfer, Nehemias Camacho was unable to make it last minute.) While Team Meridian did not win any prizes, the final score was a respectable 64 (8 under par) in the scramble format.
Overall, there were 171 golfers and over 220 total attendees that participated in the annual tournament. The contest winners of the Meridian sponsorship hole for ‘Closest to the Pin’ was Dianne Tarantino for the women, and Ken Eklund for the men. Corporate Angel Network is the only charitable organization in the United States whose sole mission is to help cancer patients access the best possible treatment for their specific type of cancer by arranging free travel to treatment across the country using empty seats on corporate jets.
Michele Posey, Director of Sales and organizer of the event, had this to say, “The annual FlightSafety Golf Tournament is a fun way for us to thank our valued customers each year by providing a relaxing day on the golf course followed by a dinner with awards and prizes. We also want to thank our sponsors, like Meridian, for their generosity and support. Now that the 2018 tournament is behind us, we’re already planning for next year.”

In addition, we also had a branded sponsorship table near the clubhouse where Mike Moore and MaKayla Hambek greeted golfers throughout the tournament. Giveaways included Gatorade, snacks, and sunscreen, as well as Meridian’s famous jet comparison guides. Greg Johnson played a competitive round in the tournament with industry colleagues.
A delicious dinner followed the event which included an award ceremony for various competitions held throughout the tournament. There were many contests, including closest to the pin, longest drive, and best overall score. Among the various prizes handed out, Greg Johnson won a G600 model aircraft and Meridian was awarded a sponsorship trophy for its ongoing support.

While 68 would be a great score for most golfers, it was not low enough to earn any prizes for Team Meridian.

On Monday, April 18, 2016, Flight Safety International held its 18th Annual Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament at Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita, CA. Meridian was proud to be a first-time sponsor of Flight Safety’s West Coast golf outing. Every year, Meridian supports FSI’s East Coast tournament usually held in June at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, NY. The company was well represented at Robinson Ranch by its California-based team, including Ken and Susan Forester, Kelly Pappas, Greg Johnson, MaKayla Hambek, and Tammy Vinas. Anthony Banome, based at Meridian’s Teterboro location in New Jersey, also made it out to the event.
Meridian sponsored the Putting Green competition, which was supported throughout the day by volunteers Ken, Susan, Kelly, MaKayla, and Tammy. The company set up a table that offered golfers water bottles, granola bars, hats and sunscreen. The putting contest winner was Steve Lee of Million Air, who had the low score of 5 strokes. A prize was also given to Travis Abbott of KACALP for having a score of 16, the highest number of strokes! In the meantime, Greg and Anthony braved the hot weather and played in the 90 degree heat on one of the two 18-hole golf courses.
Overall, the event was a big success, and went a long way to support the Southern California aviation community. The tournament had 205 players, setting a new attendance record for this event. There were 36 sponsors, also setting a new record. Lunch was provided during the outing, and a cocktail hour with a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony was held after the tournament. Prizes for Meridian folks included Kelly Pappas, who won a $100 raffle drawing, and Anthony Banome, who won a box of golf balls.

On Monday, June 24, 2013, Meridian Air Charter sent a foursome of pilots to play in the 17th Annual FlightSafety 2013 Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament held at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York. In addition to sending players, Meridian also supported the event with a hole sponsorship located on the Meadows course. The par 3 was also a contest hole for ‘Closest to the Pin’. The sponsorship enabled Meridian representatives to network with golfers by having a tent at the hole, where volunteers handed out cold water and power bars to very thirsty players. The weather was unusually hot and humid for late June, with temperatures reaching well into the 90’s for most of the day.

The tournament was a success with 180 golfers, 240 attendees, and 26 sponsors participating. Since Centennial is a 27 hole course, FlightSafety awarded 3 First Place prizes to foursomes with the lowest scores based on the combination of courses played. 1st place winners were as follows:

• Signature Flight Support on the Meadows/Lakes courses with a final score of 58
• The Whitewind Company on the Fairways/Meadows courses with a final score of 60
• Corporate Air Transport on the Lakes/Fairways courses with a final score of 60

There were 5 prizes offered for the ‘Closest to the Pin’ contests. Congratulations to Joe Gallucci of the New York City Police for winning at the hole sponsored by Meridian, located at #5 Meadows!

Prizes included iPads, Kindles, digital cameras, and aircraft models, and two Ping putters dontated by Meridian. Team Meridian completed the round +3, finishing with the same score as last year. Although the Meridian team did not win any prizes this year, everyone from the company agreed that the event was fun and very well-organized.

Meridian is looking forward to participating in its next golf tournament, which will be the 29th Annual Teterboro Airport Scholarship Classic at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, NJ, on September 20, 2013.

The weather was sunny with temperatures in the high 80’s, and one of the best weather days for the outing since the tournament’s inception 16 years ago. In addition to the sponsorship, Meridian also sent players Mike Moore and Bob Platten to represent the company in the tournament. Joining the Meridian foursome was Dan Garvey and John Rusinak. The team shot a 69 and finished -2 under on a par 71 course, not enough to beat the top 3 winning foursomes, which finished at -6, -5, and -5 under par, respectively.

David Tidwell displays his winning shot for the Closest to the Pin contest

On Monday, June 25, 2012, Meridian Air Charter sent a foursome of pilots to play in the 16th Annual Flight Safety 2012 Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament held at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York. In addition to sending players, Meridian also supported the event with a hole sponsorship, which allowed the TEB-based private aviation company to network with golfers by having a tent at the hole with two volunteers to hand out cold water and and shake hands.
While the early part of the day had experienced some stormy weather conditions which caused a half-hour delayed start, the remainder of the morning and early afternoon allowed the players to finish 12 holes before being forced to stop playing when another storm front had rolled in. Most of the players had opted to return to the course after a short delay, but the scoring was based on 12 holes to keep it fair for those golfers that did not finish the round.
About 190 golfers hit the links on Monday, with a total of 240 attendees participating in the event, including players, volunteers, and dinner guests. Since Centennial is a 27 hole course, Flight Safety awarded 3 First Place prizes to foursomes with the lowest scores based on the combination of courses played. Contest prizes were also offered for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. Prizes included iPads, Kindles, digital cameras, and aircraft models, and of course, two Ping putters dontated by Meridian.
First place winners scored -8, -7, and -6, while Team Meridian finished at +3. Although the Meridian foursome did not win first place, David Tidwell won Closest to the Pin with an amazing shot that landed just 4′ 8″ from the hole. Dave (a.k.a. “Tiddy”) won a $150 gift card to the Centennial Pro Shop, which he used to purchase a Footjoy windbreaker. Nice job Tiddy! Meridian is looking forward to participating in its next golf tournament, which will be the 28th Annual Teterboro Airport Scholarship Classic at Wild Turkey Golf Club on September 10, 2012.
